Bangkok | L’Arcadia Antiques
L’Arcadia is an absolute gem for high quality antiques in Bangkok. They are sourced from Thailand, Cambodia and Burma with a great range of wood, sandstone, lacquer and metals. The teak temple decorations and statues are exquisite. This is a carved 100 year old bodhisattva made of teak which has been treated for any parasites, so no customs problems.
Other wonderful artefacts included sandstone statues of all kinds of spirits and warriors, red lacquerware, cabinets and chairs. The most interesting item in the shop when I visited was a 19th century set of opium scales. The store owner assured me there was no opium left on them so I wouldn’t get in trouble with the law! I wish I’d bought them now…ah well…
L’Arcadia is, in theory, a fixed price store however politely asking ‘is this the best price?’ will probably get you a discount. The bodhisattva was priced at 3000 baht and on asking, I was offered 2500 baht for cash.
The service is attentive and the store owner was very knowledgeable about his products. They also organise shipping for bulky items.
